About Friends of Rural Education

Formed in the early 1990's, The Friends of Rural Education is a statewide group of concerned citizens, officials and organizations who support equity and adequacy for children in school and other funding across Nebraska.

As a grassroots movement, FRED has worked closely with other traditional groups, as well as taking a leadership position in school finance analysis and data graphics. The FRED organization was a pioneer in the use of email networking for getting news out across the state, publishes the popular "Rotunda Rumbles" email, and posts useful data analysis on the FRED website at http://fred.bloomnet.com A statewide Council of Administrators is directly involved in FRED research and efforts.

FRED has maintained a very visible lobbying component at the state capitol, with a recognized ability to speak factually and forcefully on behalf of the smaller school districts. FRED isn't looking for a job at the big schools, isn't intimidated.
